An entire day of instruction and racing on the best kart racing track in the northeast.
Oakland Valley Raceway Park is a great place for both beginners and seasoned veterans alike.
It offers both a sprint track road course for Grand Prix style racing and a paved oval track for those looking for wheel to wheel, "left turn" short track action.
Located just an hour from New York City, the track, with it's top of the line pit area and on site food services is nestled in the mountains, just a short distance from the scenic Delaware River.
LEO rented the track for the day.
The day was broken into two segments of approximately 2.5 to 3 hours each, plus a 1 hour lunch break.
We appropriately began by getting fitted into our 55mph "bumper" karts and collecting the necessary gear.
Helmets, kart jackets, gloves and neck collars were provided, but some brought their own equipment.
Mike Doty and his staff then instructed us on the basics of kart handling.
We hopped in the karts and put the lesson to use while learning the line on the tight, purpose built track with lead-follow exercises.
The morning concluded with an open lapping/coaching session.
After lunch we ran real races.
The racing format was mixed up to give everybody, no matter the skill level, a chance to have some fun.
Mike is very flexible and accommodating to however we want to run the event.
All laps, including practice, were timed so bragging rights are well documented.
