It was a dark and stormy night.
(I just love that sentence!) That was Saturday. But the weather cleared up
(almost) in time for our 4/24 meet in Clinton, NJ to see the proposed Alpine Motorsports Club in Eldred
Township, PA (near Wind Gap).
Too bad it was so cold… much to Frank Lu's chagrin since he arrived in his Speedster without it's top. We had two Elises
(nice to meet you, Sue and Maureen!), an M100, Elan S2, and several Esprits.
With dark clouds threatening overhead, we set off past a NJ State Troopers'
credential check and ran North through Stewartsville. The high-speed run up Montana Mountain in NJ was excellent…no one
on the deserted road (nor any houses for the first two miles of the hillclimb).
A few more miles of twisties
followed, then we went across the (narrow) Belvidere Bridge into Pennsylvania.
More interesting secondary roads flashed by as we passed through Flicksville
(no joke!) and Wind Gap, then seven more miles and we saw the yellow and green balloons indicating our
entrance to the Alpine property.
At the Alpine site…you can't see the track because IT'S NOT BUILT YET!"
Once there, the Alpine President, Dick Muller, explained the proposal for the track and the membership requirements.
We all got a promotional DVD, which featured the 2000 Esprit V8 of another investor,
Jim Weedling. Cool!
