We had a nice turnout for our Bear Mountain Drive in May: about 15 cars. The Elise owners come out more every time, and we
welcome you all. It was really nice to meet a few new people. We are going to
have to issue name-tags if this continues!
Organizer George Jacobson did a fine job, but had been told that entrance to the Bear
Mountain Inn's parking area would be free until Memorial Day. Lo and behold, a
toll-taker was on duty and pinched us all for six bucks a car. Oh well…
The first leg of the journey took us across the Bear Mountain Bridge,
strangely ignoring the bountiful byways of Harriman State Park. We went up to Cold
Spring NY through a delightful tunnel or two (windows down of course!) where we met up with more owners who
were a little late. Then up route 9 to the Culinary Institute of America, ably led by Ari Strauss who knew his way around some
construction…BUT it included a merge at the crest of a blind intersection that
was exciting…even George laid a bit of rubber.
Luckily we had a few no-shows for our CIA lunch so everyone who attended got a place. The food there is
amazing…good choice!
After the lunch a few of us meandered back to our local areas via some interesting back-roads in the
Catskills. Thanks to Mike Read and Ari for leading that trek. What a great day.
