On April 21, the sun shown brightly and people driving
exotic cars began to arrive on the shores of
Lake
Musconetcong in northern
NJ.
It was the Spring Social and we had many Lotus owners out in the open at last, the first time with their cars since winter. People came and
went throughout the day, and we had many Lotus models represented. All in all, a good turnout: 9 Lotus cars and about 34 DeLoreans.
Bill Thomas of William Thomas Roadsters gave us a talk and demonstration on various aspects of the Elise (including available
accessories from Sector111, which Bill is now representing on the East Coast). Connecticut Elise owner and fervid Autocrosser Stan
Marcewicz did a show and tell on the mods he has made to his 2005 "Elise", too.
We managed to sneak in a short Lotus Drive during the day, then we all assembled for a group shot on the way to the dinner. The main
speaker was Fred Dellis of Legend Industries, the engineering group who developed the turbocharger hardware for the DeLorean, Fiat Spyder, and Renault Alpine 610. (Of course, both groups knew that the
Alpine was the source for the Esprit and DeLorean transmission!) Fred's stories of the development and the promotion of the concept
(never actually put into regular DeLorean production, as the company broke up before that) were fascinating.
