LEO had a really fun day at the
Touch of England car show on June 14th.
We had our usual shady spot on the Great Lawn of the Heritage…and I finally got
a chance to take the tour of the mansion! (Imagine a home not being wired for
electricity into the 1970s!)
We had thirteen club members showing, almost as
many as the MG guys. That had to have
been a FIRST for a car show. We even had
two folks drive all the way from Long Island…it
was nice to see Mark and Martin, their families, and their cars. (I learned a
lot about cleaning an I-Phone from Martin…you can’t learn this stuff on the
internet!)
The day was not without it’s
excitement for members, though. It started with a Europa needed a push start
just 100 feet from the Hermitage…too much idling time on the warm day
apparently. Then, another Europa owner had to return to his Shack when his
alternator tried to blast his electrical system.
It didn’t stop there…a visiting Elise owner’s
son tested the car’s rev limiter when told to demonstrate the car’s sport
exhaust. And one of the Long Island contingent got a Fan Fail warning on the trip
back. (did I mention it was a hot day?)
And the final indignity was to
have one in our midst not able to start their car after the festivities were
over. I guess the organizers thought we
were just having a good time and didn’t want to leave!
Eventually all problems were
resolved and everyone drove away happy. There were plenty of door prizes as
usual, and the following took home trophies for the day, in the Lotus
class: FIRST: Bruce Wnuk, 70 Europa; SECOND: Dom
Munofo 95 Esprit S4s; THIRD: Atwell
Haines, 88 Esprit.
