July 27th was our annual Picnic,
organized by the Jaguar Auto Group for several British car clubs.
They did the usual fine job with all the activities.
The new venue, Silas Condict Park in Kinnelon, was easy to get to and away from the traffic congestion of urban
NJ. The Rally was a blast, with Photo Clues and a fifty-mile run over the Stoney Brook and
Copperas Mountains.
By the time we returned to the Park for the
picnic, the skies were threatening and the sound of thunder was in the air. No
matter for the food though, as we were inside a large Picnic Pavilion. It put a damper on the paddle boat races
though!
Speaking of dampers, we were chagrined to find that the organizers didn’t bring any
alcoholic beverages due to liability concerns. They should have mentioned this when we registered…we could have brought
some personal libation since they DID have permits. Oh well.
Unfortunately I was away from the awards when they were presented…but we DID have over 10 Lotus
cars at the picnic, a fine showing. LEO Members won in several categories in
the car show (which was divided by model years, not marque).
Despite the one shower we had, it COULD have been
worse… member Martin Horne was forced to use “supplemental motivation” on his
Esprit because of the severe storms in Long Island on his trip out!
