A few of us trekked up to the home of David Teitelbaum’s on the 28th to see how his Esprit project was
coming along.
David had purchased a damaged 1999 Esprit V8. The nose had been run over by an SUV. The frame
was largely undamaged, but the front clip (and the parts inside) were smashed.
With the assistance of his son Jason (the Ebay Wizard) David found many of the pieces needed to get
the car back into shape. An SE nose was procured…as were the V8 bumpers and lower valences. The
dashboard was repaired and recovered. The two halves of the body were matched, cut, and joined
together. The two halves were reinforced were the joint was. Finally they body was sent out for
painting, an exciting Lotus Red. Now begins the reassembly. The smaller pieces of the body were reattached,
the pedal box was reinstalled. The brakes (and ABS) were restored to working order. There
was some wiring to be rejuvenated of course, along with a lot of small miscellaneous items like door
latches, immobilizer, and alarm system. But the car is all there!
Working on the car several nights a week, David and Jason expect the work to be completed this
Spring. As of this writing the car has been successfully started and is back in the body shop for final
buffing and glass installation. Not a small feat!
The pictures following show many of the steps of the repair and restoration process. Thanks to Jay and
David for the pictures!
