On Sunday June 7th, I participated in the inaugural “RCDolner
Exotic Car Tour” … participating almost 200 exotic cars,
including around 40 Ferraris, 15 Lamborghinis, a McLaren SLR,
a Saleen S7, an SSC Ultimate Aero (currently the fastest
production car), a Fisker Tramonto, a Qvale Mangusta, a pair of Maybachs, a bevy of
Porsches including a Carerra GT and some classics, numerous Maseratis, some lovely Alfas, a trio of
Aston-Martins, a Bentley, a few Vipers, Fort GTs and fancy Corvettes, 2 Lingenfelter GTOs, a few Audi R8s, AMG
Mercedes, DeLoreans, a Skyline GTR an NSX, a few BMWs and around 8 Loti (2 Elises and 6 Esprits).
The event, sponsored by the construction firm, RCDolner, was a charity event benefiting the University
of Michigan Scleroderma Research Fund and the Children of Fallen Soldiers Relief Fund. The cars
collected early at the Suburban Golf Club in Union, where the parking lot ended up overflowing with
exotica. Owners of all marques were congenial and friendly, more than willing to share.
Then at 11:30 … “Gentlemen, start your engines” … there is nothing like the sound of around $50
million in V12s and V8s starting up in unison ... a mellifluous symphony. This sort of “heavy metal”
music I like. We wended our way onto the Parkway where the fun began, and then did a semi-spirited
drive up and down Saddle River, where we were greeted by hundreds of residents who came out to
watch. From there, we went up 17 to 287 to the Palisades and
ended up at West Point Academy for brunch and ceremonies.
Afterwards, an after-party at the Goshen Historical Race Track,
the oldest harness racetrack in the US.
A Second Annual event is already in the works and I’d
encourage all LEO/Lotus Ltd. members to participate. It is a
rare event where Lotuses are outnumbered by Lamborghinis …
and I must say that even though there were a number of cars
there costing well north of $500,000, our Loti earned their fair share of stares, photographs and
accolades. And Chrome Orange beats the orange color of Murcielagos or Gallardos, any day.
